The device (1) has a magnet (4) arranged at an end of a support (2) in axial direction to hold a bit (5) in the support. A locking device (6) is arranged in a radial opening (3) to lock the bit in the support. An actuator (7) actuates the locking device to lock the bit to the support. An auxiliary release element (8) arranged in a radial opening (9) is brought in contact with an end region of the bit in a release condition of the locking device to move apart the bit from the magnet. A spring (10) exerts a pretension force on the actuator and resets the actuator into a starting position.
